Greasepaint Youtheatre Mission Statement
Serving Scottsdale and surrounding communities, Greasepaint Youtheatre programming is designed to develop the life skills and aesthetic knowledge that Youth will carry with them both as Artists and Audiences of Tomorrow.
Our mission is to provide unique and compelling theatre experiences that educate and challenge young people to stretch the boundaries of imagination and awareness and achieve a positive sense of self.
Greasepaint Youtheatre Philosophy Statement
Greasepaint Youtheatre’s philosophy is to provide child-centered programming, founded in arts curriculum and national standards for the performing arts. This professionally-designed programming, taught by expert teaching artists, creates an environment which provides a safe and open forum for each student interested in experiencing the Arts to personally explore new and exciting forms, while at the same time, building life skills they will display in the community. Each program will have a purpose, a focus, and serve the community as a whole, while also providing Greasepaint with a population of eager and talented student-performers who will demonstrate those skills by helping create a piece of live theatre.
Support Greasepaint Youtheatre
At Greasepaint we have a strong commitment to provide the theatre experience to economically disadvantaged children through Reach for the Arts, a program designed to:
- Deepen young participants’ discoveries of the worlds and characters they portray and have a meaningful experience as an audience
- Expose an underserved population to the arts--particularly meaningful to these youth given the fact that the people they are learning from and having this experience with, are also youth and not the usual adult instructors
- Restore access to the arts as a result of school district cutbacks: Many of our Valley’s Title I schools are thrilled to have the opportunity to take part in this program and provide their students with a quality arts experience
- Serve and sponsor 600 children over a season. We plan to work with organizations such as Childhelp, Lutheran Social Services, Helping Hands and Title I schools in the Valley
- Provide each child/guest with transportation to the theatre, tickets to a high quality youth performance, educational talk backs with the cast, director and educators--and a healthy lunch.
- Provide kids the opportunity to discuss topics brought forward by the shows and also ask questions about the processes that go into putting a production together. They will then discover first-hand how discipline, team work, creativity, focus and concentration have helped young people, just like them, to succeed.
- Give kids the opportunity to learn life skills and positive qualities such as honesty, integrity, self-esteem, kindness, and respect for others. Students will leave with an activity guide so that the process of learning about performing arts will continue beyond their day at the theatre.
